U.S paddler Tyler Bradt has staked a claim on the World Waterfall Record following his succesful descent of Alexandra Falls on the Hay River in Canada's North West Territories.
The 32m waterfall was first paddled(?) in 2003 but Ed Lucero was ejected from his kayak at the base of the falls, preventing him from claiming a successful first descent according to criteria specified by the Guiness Book of World Records.
Following Tyler's descent, Rush Sturges also paddled the falls but was swept into a cave at the base of the falls.
The validity of this world record claim is being disputed by Swiss paddler Felix Laemmler who has posted video of a succesful descent of the 34m Leuenfall in January 2007. However some paddlers have claimed his video evidence was faked http://www.bondle.de/Kajak_Videos/kajak_videos.html) and the record has yet to be verified by Guinness. |
