Sea Kayaking Festival in Wales
2007-09-01
Cwm Pennant is running its tenth annual Sea Kayaking Festival over the weekend Friday 31st
August to Sunday 2nd September. The Festival is a fun event for like-minded paddlers and is
open to anyone interested in sea kayaking, whether you are an expert or just starting.
As in previous years, there will be demo fleets of sea kayaks and equipment from
manufacturers, and suppliers including P & H, Valley Sea Kayaks, Northshore, and IN-UIT
Kayaks Ltd have already indicated that they will be attending. We will also have two Wilderness
Systems double sea kayaks, owned by the BCU Sea Touring Committee available for use over
the weekend. If you are thinking of buying a sea kayak this is an ideal opportunity to try and to
compare different boats in a realistic environment.
There will be a number of practical coaching sessions available on Saturday. For those that
survive there will be day trips on the Sunday, details of which will be finalised according to the
prevailing weather conditions. The Lleyn Peninsula and the surrounding coastline offer a wide
variety of paddling opportunities, all with the mountains of Snowdonia as a backdrop. Lectures
with tales of far away places will include an account of Kierron Tastagh’s record breaking
attempt for the circumnavigation of Vancouver Island and an illustrated talk on the
circumnavigation of Ammassalik island (Greenland) by Mike Cockerill and Dave Evans
Cwm Pennant Mountain Centre is offering a range of food and accommodation packages and a
non-residential option for those who live locally. There is a closing date for bookings: 10th
