A Guide to Canoe Clubs in Great Britain.
The Benefits

Whether you are an experienced paddler or a complete beginner you will benefit from joining your local canoe club.

For the complete beginner, your local canoe club will almost certainly offer the quickest and cheapest route to learning to paddle. Nearly all canoe clubs run beginners courses in the local swimming pool which provides a warm and safe introduction to canoeing. Most clubs will have a range of equipment that you can borrow during your introduction to the sport. This enables you to try before you buy, significantly reducing the initial costs involved.

If you are a competitive paddler looking for a training group or a whitewater junkie in need of a paddling partner, the local canoe club should be able to help you out. Many of the larger clubs have permanant facilities on a local river, enabling you to train regularly, store your boat and take advantage of the changing facilities, a real bonus in the middle of winter.

Finally - don't overlook the social benefits of joining a club. They are great places to meet like minded individuals, especially if you are new to the area.
